The Nursing Assistant Program at Delano Adult School is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to enter the healthcare industry. The program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to care for ill and convalescing patients. During class instruction, students will learn basic anatomy and physiology, human development, factors affecting health, basic nursing care, charting techniques, and the role and responsibility of a healthcare provider. Students will also be provided with practical training to ensure that they can perform their duties effectively and safely. The program offers clinical experience in a long-term care facility under the direct supervision of the instructor. During the clinical experience, students will be able to apply the skills learned in the classroom and gain practical experience working with patients. This experience is invaluable and will help students develop their skills, confidence, and competence in the healthcare industry.

Program Requirements:

The program consists of a three-month period, with 100 hours of class instruction and 100 hours of clinical experience. 

NAT classes are offered twice a year, in September and late February, and the program is approximately three months long. A class schedule will be made available at the time of registration. Students are encouraged to contact the office for more information regarding the program and its requirements. In addition to providing students with valuable experience and knowledge, our Nursing Assistant Training program is also articulated with Bakersfield College for college credits. This means that upon completion of the program, students may be eligible to receive college credits that can be applied towards a higher degree program. Overall, the Nursing Assistant Program at Delano Adult School is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to enter the healthcare industry. The program provides students with a solid foundation of knowledge and practical experience that will help them become competent and compassionate healthcare providers.

Entry Requirements:

  • 18 years of age and over to enroll
  • A high School Diploma or GED from the United States  (Diplomas from other countries are not accepted)
  • Must pass the CASAS comprehensive reading test with a score of 236 or higher to be admitted to the class  (No practice test available)
  • No Felony Convictions
  • Must have a valid Social Security card

You will be called a month before classes begin, so we can schedule your testing appointment.  Please be prepared to present Valid ID, Social Security Card and a copy of your HS Diploma or GED certificate when you come for testing.

Physical Requirements

  • Be able to lift, bend/stoop, walk or stand for a minimum of 6-8 hours
  • Be able to assist adults (weighing 150 lbs and over) with bathing and/or showers and move thme from bed to wheelchair
  • Be cleared of TB
  • No back or neck problems
  • If you are pregnant, you must be cleared by your doctor to attend classes

As a rule Delano Adult School does not refund registration fees.  Students who drop the NAT class without a valid reason will not have their money refunded.  You will however, be able to attend the next class but your name will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list.
